How to Make a DIY Disney Reveal Video (And When to Leave it to the Pros!)

Background and History:

We created our first theme park reveal video for our own children when planning a Disney World trip.  It took hours upon hours of work, but the end result was magical: fully customized to our particular trip and itinerary, and looking and sounding just how we wanted it.  The feeling of satisfaction of creating something for your loved ones is incredible.

The part that was most impressive? Mickey Mouse said our kids names and personally invited them to Disney.  The kids were blown away by the video, and this encouraged us to create Theme Park Reveal.

It was from this video that our business started and we still get the same excitement from making videos for our customers as we did when making the very first video for our kids!

We want to share with you in this post how you can create your own video on a budget.

Section 1: How to Make a Free DIY Disney Reveal Video

Making your own Disney reveal video is a fantastic way to reveal your upcoming trip to your loved ones, and affords you the opportunity to customize the video to your specific trip.

You may wish to include:

  • The names of your loved ones
  • A photo of your loved ones
  • The names of your loved ones
  • The dates of travel and length of stay at the parks
  • The specific parks or rides you will be visiting
  • The character meets and dining experiences
  • A photo of your loved ones

Free tools to help you putting your video together:

Video editing: Canva, iMovie, or CapCut

Video clips of Disney Parks: Pexels, Mixkit

Video capture: OBS

Background Music: NCS

Character voices: Jammable - *These services typically involve a small monthly fee which can be cancelled after signup.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Find free stock footage of the castle or rides for the park you are visiting.  A great resource for this is Pexels. Use OBS to 'record' the theme park video footage for use in your video editing software (Canva, iMovie, or CapCut).  Having your own footage from a previous visit is an excellent way to shortcut this step.

2. Download some royalty-free music.  A great resource is NCS.  Magical fairytale music is always a good choice for these video types.

3. Use your video editing software (Canva, iMovie, or CapCut) to add your theme park footage from step 1.  Add in your music from step 2.  Now is a great time to add in a photo of your loved one.

4. Use text overlays in video editing software to say "We're going to Disney!", or add in your loved ones name.

5. Optional (*and may cost a small fee), but really impressive!  Use a  character voice suite, like Jammable) and generate an audio clip of their favorite character (superhero, princess) saying their name, and inviting them to Disney.  It's a magical touch that is often worth spending a little on.

6. Edit the video together and save the video file to display on your TV or Phone.

Section 2: The Challenges of the DIY Route

  • Time-Consuming: Video editing can take hours, especially for beginners.  It's a steep learning curve, but once you know how, all your family trips and important videos can be edited into a professional video.

  • Finding the right clips Finding good Disney-style music or high-quality ride footage can be challenging, and time consuming.  If you are a perfectionist, this may take some patience!

  • Lack of Personalization: Free tools can't easily replicate authentic character voices, especially saying the child's specific name.  Professional services tend to be locked away behind a paywall.

Section 3: The Stress-Free Alternative: Professional Custom Videos

The benefits of purchasing with us:

  • Authentic character voices (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, etc.) actually speaking the family's name.  This has taken us years to perfect with voice actors and AI training.  We constantly update and refine our character voices to be the best in the business.

  • Professional editing with high-quality theme park footage and magical music.  We employ professional video editors who use movie grade video editing and color correction software to make sure your video is looking and sounding incredible.

  • Zero stress: We do all the work, and the video is delivered to your inbox in 24 hours - letting you get on with other vacation preparations.

Summary:

  • Whether they choose to DIY it or buy a custom video, the memory of the surprise will last a lifetime.
